I am very sad to report the passing of Joseph (Pineapple) Tancayo. I had not heard from Joe in quite some time so I decided to search for him online. I am always hopeful that I would not find another obituary but there it was. Joe came to our 2009 Fort Leonard Reunion and all of us A Co brothers were so excited to see him after all those years. More details can be found on our Latest News page.

It is with a heavy heart I am teling you that Bill Stafford of the EM Platoon of C Company passed suddenly today. His family will send me the arrangments and I will get them to Perry so he can officialy post them.

My father passed in 2018 and was listed as a member of this Battalion with Veteran Services ... I'm heading to Vietnam in November and would love to get more information regarding what they did while stationed there ... or if anyone might remember him? His name was Lester Robert Cotton and was there definitely in July 1968 (see icon photo)
Reply Hi Jennifer, Thank you for sending me a copy of your Father's DD-214. It looks like he was in the 589th Transportation Company instead of the 589th Engineer Battalion. I hope you can search his unit and get some more information on his service in Vietnam. Sorry I couldn't help you. Perry Blanchfield

Then scroll to a picture of AL holding a camera. 2 pictures past the camera picture iis a picture of Al and James. Reply Are you saying James Rickard has died? He is not listed as a member of the 589th Engineers Association or on any of the 589th Morning Reports for HHC.

According to James Rickards Facebook page he passed away January 22 , 2026.
he was a medic in HHC.. He was in country when I arrived @ HHC in April 68. RIP |

I received a letter from Cora T Keene. her husband RALPH D KEENE died 08/02/2024. He was born 02/18/1946. He was in D company , earth moving platoon , 589th Eng. Batt. I worked with him building that air strip near vihnthan. I have sent a letter and a card to Cora. Ralph was a great guy and will be missed by those that new him.
hard times have come upon Cora and she had to sell her home to get by. I have her new address if you need it. |
