I want to also send wishes for a Merry Christmas and the best in the New Year. I might add that getting to Nam on the 19th of December I did not know what a short timer calendar was but I did do something different for that first Christmas in Nam--they said there is a newbie he gets guard duty! It was a long time ago and this site does give us the opportunity to converse with a lot of Brothers at one time and quite easily at that. To think back to the times in Nam is sometimes scary and heart breaking but to look forward to September and our next reunion lessens the pain and brightens each day as I mark it off new my short timers calendar until the reunion. Hope to see you all there and Welcome Home and be sure to remember today's troops that are experiencing what we did.

I wish I could say it as well as Bob but since I can't I'll simply say that I wish all of my 589th Brothers and their families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We are very fortunate to be able to send messages like this to over 650 reunited 589th Brothers. Let's vow to keep in touch.

I am wishing each of my Brothers of the 589th Engineer Battalion the happiest of holidays. May we remember the good times and the bad, the happy and the sad; find ways to remember, ways to forget, and ways to heal together. God bless each of you. As I think back of the Christmas seasons we shared in Vietnam, my memories become very foggy. Except for feeling a little extra lonely, those holidays were probably not much different in routine from any other day. I know that Santa did not come to Vietnam - rumor had it he was concerned about being mistaken for the enemy and shot down by C Company. Whether anyone from C Company could shoot straight enough was always a matter of speculation by the rest of the Battalion, but they had Santa believing they could. The one thing I know I did on Christmas was cross another day off my short-timer calendar. Being able to cross another day off my calendar was good enough then, but each of you deserve more today. Here is wishing you the very best, that you receive all you are wishing for, and that you have a prosperous and happy new year. God bless each of you.

I voluntarily enlisted less than amonth after graduated high school and had my 18th birthday so I'm not complaining.I arrived in Vietnam less than a week before Christmas forty seven years ago,aneighteen year old kid who had never been away from home and family.I was thinking about all the other guys who had the same experiences of not being with family on special occasions,and of those who would never get to do so again. I just got an e-mail from 589th@589thengineers.com saying that my comment was under revue and will be submitted shortly. I did not submit any comment. Has anyone else had this show up on their e-mail?

I am still in awe at what Perry has done so far. I hope everyone that got his email will take the time to really review and comment on how you like it. With the weather we have coming the next few days I should have time to spend more time on it. Thanks to all and especially the COB!

Al and all my 589th brothers, it was decided at this years business meeting to limit the PX sales to non-clothing items except for hats. We just had too many t-shirts left over each year that we had to sell below cost to get rid of them. I expect in the future we will take orders from just those attending the reunion and distribute them there. This worked very well this year and no t-shirts were left over thanks to the pre-ordering. Another good reason to come to the reunion. I look forward to seeing everybody next year.
