I am dismayed to see that what happened to us with the VA after Vietnam is now happening to our sons and daughters coming back from Afganistan and Iraq. It appears that the VA's attitude is better towards today's veterans, but the wait times for benefits (including educational benefits) is running into the months. I'm willing to donate towards worthy non-government veterans programs for injured veterans if anyone has recommendations.

Spoke with Charles Begley today by phone. He is still in V A hospital at Lexington, Ky. Recovering from surgecy , and he hopes to go home tomorrow . He's looking at years of rehab. Please continue to pray for him and all our aging brothers.

Sometime ago I posted a message looking for a guy who's last name I believed was Hill but in fact his name and rank our SFC Jonathan Brown he was a personnel sgt and still in country in October of 1970 when I went home. If anyone has knowledge of this gentlemen please contact me again my name is David Sciara and I served in Vietnam from Jan 1969 to October of 1970. hello;just wanted to say i was in the 589th in Apr.1966 until i was excessed outDec.1966.I knew alot of the guys then;but i don't remember their last names,now!Anyway,i went into a recycling Co.;I think it was the 16th engr,atFt.hood...where i would cycle different equiptment..At the time i was excessed out of the Bn.;there were rumors flying about 589th going to vietnam...ya know we all were kids 17-18-19yrs old;back thenNobody wanted to go to vietnam...Anyway ; seems the Lord had different plans 4 me....I when home on 2week leave;Shock!! i got orders to report 87th eng bn;Vietnam....@months before the 589th got there....I've been looking 4 yrs to see what happened with the589th......One guy i think his name was Tony Sansone another guy named Fitzpatrick from N.Y. anyway any of the 1966 guys remember me...I was the real,real skinny guy...thank you kindly John McManus

Hey Guys let's keep our comments as civil as possible. We all have our issues we are dealing with - some more than others. If you have something to say that might benefit other Members then feel free to express it here. If you need help then ask for specific things your Brothers can do to help you. If you want to tell us about your experiences with the VA then do so but keep it factual and in a way that might help others. If you respond to someone else's post then do so with respect to your Brother. We all know the VA is slow and inefficient - Welcome to the Federal Government! I don't know why some states are more helpful than others in getting our military the benefits they deserve but that appears to be the case. Hang in there.

Well, guessI will put a word or two on the guestpage. Who,would have dreamed some of us would have lived this long after Nam. But we have a few that think they are the only onces that have problems. We all have health issues. We were all exposed to agent orange and every thing else. We didn't sit around and piss and moan. We fought back and got something done. It don't happen over night. I wrote letters, made phone calls and filed and refiled. But I got something done. So brother don't expect help if you try to help your self.

i forgot to mention , its not the service officers of the vf w amvets and all those . i tell yea theres a brick wall higher up in the v a in washington state , at lest in the spokane and seattle va hospitals , i dont know the answer but i do know richard vernon and richard carpenter are only 2 out of hundereds and you can beleve that , i hear about other va hospitals and how great they are and i wonder ??? what am i missing . do i exspect to much, are we like dogs and have to beg for good help ?? i dont know , all i know is richard vernon is alot werse off then i and i FEEL his frustraion, thanks agin perry and all the staff of the 589th . agin welcome home brothers carp .
