I arrived in country on 7 August 1969. For twenty-two days I was shipped all over S. Vietnam, who needed a plumber (51K20) in Vietnam! Finally, ending up with the 589th 'B-Co' in late Aug. The Personnel Dept found out I could peck on a typewriter, so I became the company clerk/mail clerk replacement for 'B-Co' for four months under Captain Danial S. Quintard. In Janurary 1970, 'HHC' Major Romayne Schroder came to the 'B-Co' office and told Captain Quintard, he was taking me to 'HHC' to become the Battalion Mail Clerk replacement. What a treat! I finished my tour as the Battalion Mail Clerk in August 1970. All I can say is...I had the greatest job while in Vietnam. There was nothing better than mail-call, everyones facial expressions would change when they received a letter from home. hi, and welcome home guy;s. anyone from CO.D served mar . 68-69 started an khe drove 3/4 ton sargent in charge of surveying road crew ple kou. moved by LST to phan rang up to tent city between phan rang and da lat.there was a lake worked on guard tower overlooking lake 50 cal. went to da lat for supply;s what a place cobblestone roads, golf, schools, etc. then back to reality!!! anyone out there???
