Wednesday is Veteran's Day and I too want to take a moment to say Thank You and Welcome Home to all my 589th Brothers. Before I found the 589th I would wonder about the guys I served with in Nam and say a little prayer that they were safe. Now on this Veteran's Day I will still say a little prayer for them but it will also include all my Brothers! This year I will pray that our leaders of the 589th do the right things for us and keep the 589th strong and viable as an Organization. A lot of my daily happiness comes from knowing that my Brothers made it home safely. Now I hope that we all live until the next Reunion. I pray for your health and safety and hope we can see each other again in 2017. Happy Veterans Day & Welcome Home!

Smith, Homer Lee, Sr. 84 passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2015. He was a retired Army Veteran serving in Korea & two terms in Viet Nam which was equivalent to 44 months of combat duty. He was a member of C Co 589th Engineer Battalion Song Pha, Viet Nam1969, KY Colonel, He had been a pastor of Sun Valley General Baptist Church & Hilltop General Baptist Church and he was also a member of Sun Valley General Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Ardith Smith and brother, Bobby Gene Smith. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 61 years, the former Kay Gibson, son, Homer Lee, Jr., daughter, Deborah K. Williams (Darrell), Teresa D. Smith, son, David M. (Kathy Ann), grandchildren, Brandon, Samantha, Mandy, D.J.
